Could not have asked for more
My concern coming into the reservation is managing my group’s expectation on how nice the house is. The pictures looked great, the price point looked reasonable, but as a seasoned traveler, you always think that things are too good to be true.

I can absolutely vouch that this house was as advertised and would definitely go back.

The positives can go on and on from the beautiful quiet private beach (with decent surf, no public crowds visible from your location), to the size of the secluded “mansion” (safe gated property). Did not feel uncomfortable at all as all 10+ rooms had AC, and there were showers everywhere (even 2 sets outdoors)

I only had 1 minor con: lack of higher end restaurants in the “off-the-beaten-path” area (1 amazing restaurant called salitre which we went to 4 times), but you should expect this.

Perfect for wedding venues, group trips. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thanks

    May 2012
The Villa Rosa was an absolute dream. From the time that we arrived to the time that we checked out we had a wonderful time.

My family and I came to Puerto Rico for my sons wedding. The villas was perfect for everyone. It was just as it was described and pictured only better! The property was clean and well maintained. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed and then more for meals and entertaining and there was pleanty of room for eberyone.

The pool and outside bar and kitchen was great for swimming and just relaxing. We walked the beach everyday and actually saw sea turtles hatching.

I would recommend the villa to anyone that is looking for a relaxing and wonderful vacation. I have been telling everyone about it and we are already planning a return trip.

The owner and caretaker were wonderful to deal with.

Thank you for a memorable week!

Excellent villa for a large group
We rented this villa for a Business Partner retreat. This is a beautiful location along the north coast of Puerto Rico. It is outside of the more developed areas so the beach is very quiet and secluded. I only wish I had brought surfboards because the waves were spectacular but I couldn’t find anywhere to rent boards.

The house is very large and can accommodate a large group quite easily. It has several nice features including 2nd and 3rd floor large patios, enormous first floor patio, outdoor showers, outdoor bar, private beach access, etc etc.

Its a great place and I look forward to getting back to Arecibo to experience more of the area and the people and hopefully some of what appears to be top notch surfing breaks.

First i must start with the owner Myrtle-Rose, what an amazing home you have and thank you again for sharing this beautiful home with us.

When arriving the maintenance man Carlos and his wife were there to greet us with beautiful smiles…He escorted us around the house to make sure we new where everything was. We had a group of 8 so everyone was comfortable. The 3rd floor master bedroom is to die for, the decor is so breathtaking and the view from the patio is amazing especially when all you have to do is open your eyes and see the sunrise without getting out of bed. This is our second trip to Luquillo for my husband and I but the first ever for our family members and with every moment we were there they kept smilles on their faces, as soon as we got there I notices I was was alone in the house I look to the backyard and they are all swimming at the beach and yes your backyard is the beach.

On arriving the masterbed room’s AC did not work so we had to spend our first night in one of the rooms on the second floor but by 930am the next morning, Carlos had a friend that worked for TRANE and the AC was fixed for the rest of our trip.

This home is a must if you are in Luquillo, so beautiful and quiet but also remember to feed the cats and a few homeless dogs on the your trip, there are so many of them, I hope our family helping them made a little difference for them and also the dishwasher did work for us (thank god) so yes that has been fixed.

We rented the house for my husband’s 50th and some friends come down with us. The house was clean and spacious. The beach was wonderful and very private. We especially loved that there were two refrigerators! The dishwasher was broke which was inconvenient given our large group but we bought paper plates and plasticware to keep hand washing dishes to a minimum. Everyone had a terrific time. My husband already wants to go back.

  • From Alice Y on VillaRosa - Luquillo

Very nice house. Master bedroom and common areas were spacious; some of the other bedrooms were tight but adequate. AC units throughout made the whole house comfortable. Best thing: The ocean is really just steps out the back door. Hearing the sound of the waves all day made our stay feel extra dreamy, and being able to step out any time to play in the surf was perfect for the kids (and adults). The waves were quite strong when we were there, though, so it’s not the best swimming beach for young children. However, the perfect swimming beach (the award winning Balneario Luquillo) is only about 2 km away and you can safely walk there on an access road that runs alongside the highway. The location is also very convenient for visiting El Yunque rainforest and fairly easy for biobay tours in Fajardo.

The caretaker of the house was terrific, going out of his way to meet us and lead us to the house when we got lost looking for it upon arrival. By the way, do not use GPS to find the house. That’s how we got lost. Use the directions that the house owner gives you. Those are accurate and easy to follow.

Loved it, loved it, loved it! The house has all the neccesary ammenities for a “home away from home”. It was very spacious for a 6-girl getaway which allowed us each to our own room, and the beach at the backyard was awesome. The views at sunset and sunrise were remarkable. Tomas, the property manager, was available when we needed him. Even for suggestions on where the locals go. The house is located right off highway 3 which allowed us easy access to other sites on the island.

Let me start out by saying how much we appreciate Myrtle-Rose! We had this home booked for an extended family vacation in June 2012 when my husband was hospitalized, four days before we were to leave for our Puerto Rico vacation. Myrtle-Rose did the unthinkable for most vacation home lessors and allowed us (two days before we were to arrive!) to move our rental of this home to April 2013. Our family of 11 (ranging in age from 10 to 73) is incredibly grateful to her for allowing us to move this trip to a time when we could all attend, healthy and ready to make lifetime memories. We definitely did that in Puerto Rico and this home was a fabulous point from which to venture out for exploring or to just kick back and relax. The space was more than ample for us to enjoy being together without feeling like we were stumbling over each other. The home is well maintained by Tomas, who was very responsive to any issues (minor things like the satellite TV connection or leaky faucet) or questions we had. The beds were comfy, the pool table and jacuzzi got plenty of use and the kitchen was large and equipped with all we needed to feed our large group. We LOVED having the beach right outside our door and were thrilled with how far we could walk out in the water with it still being waist deep! The neighborhood is primarily one of poverty (the annual income in Luquillo is shockingly low) although there are a few other nice homes. That was a bit of a surprise at first but we got comfortable quickly and never felt threatened. There are also several (stray?) dogs and cats that hang around, probably because the vacationers feed them and they are looking for the next handout. But they weren’t much of an issue. In the end, the kindness of Myrtle-Rose, the responsiveness of Tomas, the convenience and beauty of the ocean (loved hearing the crashing waves at night!), the amenities and size of the house and its proximity to so much adventure (rainforest, kiosks, bio-bay, 40 min drive to Old San Juan…) provided us with the vacation experience I had hoped for and imagined for all of us. We had a wonderful week and definitely recommend this home!

Great beach house for family get-together!
We had a wonderful stay in Luquillo at Villa Rosa. Everything went smoothly with booking, arrival, and departure. The house was even better than expected – there is an additional bedroom on the first floor (though it is not air-conditioned) and one of the bedrooms on the second floor now has two sets of bunk beds, so there was plenty of room for all 13 of us! The beach out the back door is lovely, though for little toddlers like we had, the main beach at Luquillo (maybe 5 minutes away by car) is even better because it is so calm. Easy access to markets and restaurants, minutes from El Yunque, easy drive to Old San Juan and the bioluminescent bay in Fajardo – a great location. It is not surrounded by condominiums or resorts – the neighborhood is a real mix of nice properties and run-down places, but it always felt perfectly safe. We had a few issues with the house – the water pressure wasn’t right when we arrived, but this was fixed within a day. The doorknob also fell off the door to the second floor and this was not fixed, but it wasn’t a big deal – we just kept it propped open when we were home. If you want a great house for families or big groups, I highly recommend Villa Rosa.

    Family vacation
This property was good for a large family. We had 14 people and could easily accommodate everyone in the bedrooms and bathrooms. There are 5 full/queen size beds in separate rooms with 4 twin beds in another (2 sets of bunk beds). A futon and pull out couch give even more space. We had some small children and the sound proofing between the floors and rooms was quite good. We could put the little ones to sleep and the adults could still be up moving around and talking without risking waking anyone.

The proximity to the beach (50 feet out the back door) and other attractions were great. An easy walk to the Wyndham resort for beverages and beach chairs. You can drive to the Kioscos for food, the rain forest, Old San Juan, etc… The area surrounding the house itself is not great and we didn’t walk around in the neighborhood at all because of that…but the beach side was fabulous. Tomas was very responsive to any questions/needs.

There are some things to know, as mentioned on previous posts. The keys situation is frustrating. The house seems to be setup to allow the rental of each floor separately so there are 4 different sets of keys (one for the front and back doors and then one for each level) in addition to a gate opener. When you have multiple families and only one set of keys it can be hard to arrange a day of different excursions …we had to hide the gate opener and keys. We were able to park 4 rental cars inside the gate with no problem…but only one gate opener was hard.

The pillows desperately need to be replaced! It took us a few days to figure out how to get hot water up stairs but once we did everyone was much happier. Having a kitchen with huge refrigerators was a blessing. The full size washer and dryer were also very handy throughout the week.

All things considered it was a great location with nice amenities…not top of the line but very adequate for a large group.

    What a place!
This House was amazing! Right on the beach, a nice walk from excellent local cuisine, and a close drive to El Yunque rainforest and Las Cabezas de San Juan nature reserve. The kitchen had everything we needed, and there was plenty of space for everyone in our rather large group. The caretaker, Tomas, was really nice and courteous and takes very good care of the place. We hope to come back soon.

You want togetherness AND space? This is your place!!
After touring the outer islands of Vieques and Culebra for a week, a stop in Luquillo was an opportunity to experience one of PR’s major cities. Villa Rosa is perfectly located to do just that. Villa Rosa is situated in a Puerto Rican neighborhood, not in a secluded gated resort where the people you meet are like the people you know at home. At Villa Rosa, go out the front door and even a short walk will give you a glimpse of everyday life in a quiet neighborhood. Yet, if you walk out the back door, you are only feet from the ocean! There’s a long, curving strip of beach that is perfect for a morning walk, for exercise, or just to observe and enjoy. Although all beaches in Puerto Rico are public, it feels private because there are so few people on it.

Villa Rosa is located within 5 miles of the magnificent El Yunque National Forest! It is the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. Parks and Wildlife system and is NOT to be missed. Also just a short distance from the house are the Kioskos, a strip of local restaurants and shops where one can sample the local cuisine and find souvenirs.

As for the house itself, I found VR warm, spacious, and inviting. I love the open concept of the first floor. There is ample, comfortable seating for both lounging and eating. It will be PERFECT for a future extended-family vacation.

More than anything, I loved the light and airy feeling you have when you’re in this large space. I think the large jalousied windows and french doors were the ideal design choice by the owner.

The highest compliment I can pay to the place I stay is to say I like the way I feel when I’m in the space. And I loved the way I felt while staying at Villa Rosa.

    Family Trip
Our family had a wonderful time together in Puerto Rico and Villa Rosa was great in accommodating our large family. Our grandchildren spent hours on the beach right in front of the house and loved the waves for boogie boarding. The location was very convenient to great restaurants, several beaches, the Rain Forest and only 40 minutes into San Juan. It was a wonderful vacation and one that we will tresure for years to come. Thank you for sharing your home with our family.

    Six-day wedding celebration
My husband and I celebrated our wedding at VillaRosa on Nov. 11 and stayed for six nights. We LOVED our time there.

Our favorite feature of the house was its gorgeous, peaceful semi-private beach. The sand is soft and the water is a stunning turquoise. We held our 26-person ceremony on the edge of the yard before dusk, and I can’t imagine a more magical setting.

We went to one of many fabulous local restaurants for the wedding dinner, but were pleased to find more than enough cups, plates and utensils for toasts and cake for all of our guests. The kitchen is very well stocked, and we loved having two big fridges plus a wine fridge for all of our food and drinks.

Before and after the wedding day our guests enjoyed exploring Luquillo’s kioscos (delicious!), hiking in the nearby rainforest, kayaking in Fajardo’s bioluminescent bay, and having spa time and renting jet skis at the Rio Mar Resort. There was so much to do in the area!

We also spent a lot of time just hanging out at the house. With the hot tub and pool and ping-pong tables, nobody ever got bored. VillaRosa felt more than big enough for the 10 of us who stayed and 16 more who popped in and out of the house.

The bed situation was actually a little different (and better) than what is described above. The twin room has two sets of twin bunk beds, and the enclosed living room has a queen bed rather than a futon. It was more like having six bedrooms, though the living room didn’t have a closet.

I agree with other reviewers that the pile of keys we had to deal with was sometimes annoying. Also, there were some hiccups with water pressure and the hot tub. However, Tomas, the ultra-friendly caretaker, was very responsive. None of these minor issues detracted from our overall experience.

We would absolutely recommend VillaRosa to friends. In fact, many of our wedding guests are already daydreaming about vacationing there!

    family vacation
Just spend 1 week in Luquillo at VillaRosa with the whole family (from 70 years old to 4 years old). The house is better than advertised. It is a quiet place. The beach was literally 20 steps away from the house. We basically had the whole beach to ourselves. The waves were quite strong, so we also spent time in the “lagoon”, which is only 100 yards away. The kiosks are 10 minutes walk from the house. The kids had so much fun in the water nearby, even Grandma did because she didn’t have to walk too far. There are plenty of place to sleep. We didn’t feel “cramped” at all. Thank you for letting us stay at VillaRosa, we had a wonderful time.

Recommend for large group and relaxing time.
